When Maida told me why they wanted to have their pictures done in a sunflower field I felt a twinge in my heart and knew we had to find the right place. Sunflower season was ending in Flagstaff, but we were assured by locals and the ranger stations we called we could still find sunflowers mixed in with yellow flowers at a few locations. I suggested local areas that were about to bloom, however Maida loved the idea of getting away to Flag for the weekend.
So they brought their sweet dog Bentley and Michael met them in Flagstaff at Buffalo Park, where, although scarce, sunflowers were still in bloom.
I asked about their love story, and here is Maida's response.
I met Donny 3 years ago through an online dating website. At first I wasn't having any luck and thought the idea was dumb so I decided to deactivate my account. Before I did, I saw Donnys profile and decided to message him and said that I was deactivating my account but was interested in talking to him so I gave him my number and told him to text me. A couple weeks went by and I didn't hear from him so I reactivated my account and saw that he messaged me back and gave me his number, which I thought was odd since he never texted me. Long story short, we went on a date that night and hit it off and I found out a little later in our relationship that he thought I was a "bot" and didn't trust that I was a real person haha! We are completely different from each other, which I believe makes our relationship so strong. I'm always go go go and a very anxious person and he's so calm and collected so we balance each other out. We didn't have any of the same interests at first but in the 3 years we have been together, we have grown to explore new things and there are so many firsts for us so it keeps our relationship exciting! When we met, he had a Labrador Retriever named Saber that was 7 at the time and I have a lab mix named Bentley who was still a puppy and those two became inseparable. Bentley looked up to Saber like it was his dad unfortunately Saber passed away at the age of 10 on August 31st 2018 and it completely crushed us. We had no idea he was sick because he always acted like a puppy on the outside so it was very unexpected for the entire family. Saber reminded us of a sunflower since he was always so bright (and he was a yellow lab) and just made us smile even when we were in the worst of moods. Since he couldn't be there for our photo shoot, we decided that we wanted to do it in a sunflower field in his memory. He will forever be in our hearts
Adorable, right?
In loving memory of Saber. RIP
