We had known all week that there was 100 percent chance of rain the day this shoot was scheduled and considered rescheduling. But if we didn't capture the fall colors at this time, our October wedding schedule would probably prevent us from getting out to Lockett Meadow before all the colors were gone. So we changed our schedule from sundown to "let's get there as early as possible to beat the rain". At first, the rains were scheduled for 7:00 am and the earliest I could coordinate the shoot was 9:30. Welp, it's worth it to take the chance, right? All week the storms had been coming early, so maybe this one might come late? We made our plan and I reminded Michael how much we love "weather". Truth be told, dancing in the rain is kinda our thing. On our wedding day when rain was expected, I told everyone to bring umbrellas instead of moving our ceremony inside. I planned to get married (without an umbrella) in the mountain rain, by the flowing river with the wind in our hair. I love to feel the elements. To me, that is living. So if we get some weather for this shoot, it certainly won't ruin anything. But we planned to stay dry, and we did.
Although we managed to stay dry, the storm made itself known and the sky and clouds changed rapidly throughout our shoot from blue skies to storm clouds with the full sun playing peekaboo between the clouds, which made for moody lighting and dramatic skies. I'm pretty sure we saw a snowstorm in the distance, and we had snow-capped mountains in some of our views.
Our beautiful bride, Maddy wore Phoenix by Lover's Society, a boho gown she rocked with a hat. Her simple bouquet was made by Heather from Arizona Florations. Her handsome groom, Scott was decked out in the colors of fall.
And we brought along a cozy blanket in mustard yellow to fight off the chill. (And because of the cute/fall/photogenic factor).
I know, right? A boho princess, her handsome guy and the gorgeous colors of fall are all that is needed to make this day complete. We love simplicity and this shoot proves that a simple elopement can be beautiful with nature as your only backdrop.
And we had a strong finish in the yellow aspens! The rains? Oh, the sky burst open as we were headed back down the mountain. Now we are waiting on our next adventure, a jeep tour elopement this week in the Sedona wilderness! YES!!!
